DAY 23 - 24/11/2023

This film might not hold a place in cinema history as an all-time great or a masterpiece of some golden age, but to me, this film is an experience of youth done to near perfection. This film is a remake of a Taiwanese film of the same name and focuses on the simple Japanese school life, and romance drama style of films. Directed by Yasuo Hasegawa, You Are The Apple of My Eye (2018) is a film that won't fail to bring a smile to your face.

The film has this simple, slice-of-life feel to it and it's a nice and light watch that is funny, and emotional sometimes but wrapped up in this ball of reliability where high school rom-coms are concerned.

The cinematography and direction contribute to the film's appeal. The visuals capture the vibrancy of youth and the picturesque settings of Japan. Yasuo Hasegawa's directorial choices effectively bring out both the humour and the emotional depth of the story.

Nostalgia is a significant element in You Are The Apple of My Eye (2018) The film captures the essence of youth, and the characters' journey from high school to adulthood is portrayed with a sense of longing and reflection. It effectively taps into the universal themes of coming-of-age and the bittersweet nostalgia associated with the passage of time.

The soundtrack complements the film well, enhancing the emotional impact of key scenes. The music helps create a nostalgic atmosphere and adds an extra layer to the storytelling.

My Rating: 7/10.
