DAY 7 - 6/11/2023

The Korean New Wave has produced a legacy of films that deserve to be celebrated the world over. The impact it's had on contemporary Korean Cinema and as a result, Asian cinema as a whole has been monumental.

The Outlaws (2017) is a Korean action film that has reaped the rewards of the Korean New Wave. Directed by Kang Yoon-Sung, this film is one that blends action, emotion and fight sequences like the American action films of old. But with a distinctly Korean lens.

The leading man, Don Lee has shot to super-stardom with this film and his image as the quintessential action star of today has grown exponentially. The Outlaws (2017) is the kind of film that brings a smile to my face and allows me to really just cut loose and enjoy what I like to call "Entertainment Cinema".

The film has great action moments that are informed with infusions of comedy throughout the film. The way it blends comedy, action and the signature Don Lee Slap you see in the figure above, is what makes films like these great. I honestly highly recommend this film to anyone just looking for some mindless watching fun because personally, I am here for this franchise all the way so long as they keep delivering these types of films.

My Rating: 8.5/10
