DAY 12 - 11/11/2023
As soon as I was able I immediately downloaded David Fincher's latest thriller, The Killer (2023). What a film. It was cold, calculating and drowning in voiceovers.

I can see it now. The comments on this film would be something along the lines of "too many voiceovers" or "it felt too dry and emotionless". While I do empathise with the opinions above, and others like them, it's pretty clear that those people don't understand the intention behind this film or rather these types of films.
Personally, once you understand that this film is a character study as he commits folly after folly against the promises he makes to himself and the rules that he says he would never break, the whole picture really forms. While the film is undoubtedly a thriller with some action mixed in, the film does draw strongly from dramas.
The voiceovers are a thing of beauty. The vibrato they give and the bass of Micheal Fassbender's voice, accompanied by the perfect sound levelling in the film is the true heartbeat of the film. Never have I seen a film where the voiceovers don't just take centre stage, but they act as the de facto film score in a way.

While I do want to dive deeper into the use of the voiceovers, I don't want to risk spoiling the film just yet.
Whatever the case, this film is without a doubt a strong contender for my top 10 films of the year.
My Rating: 9/10
