Greetings everyone, hope you're all having a great Thursday. Today I had the opportunity to re-experience Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (2008). Today also happens to be my birthday and I have to say, that one of my favourite films being re-shown in cinemas on the very day of my birth gives me a small but humble sense of providence.

DAY 3 - 2/11/2023
I've seen some interviews where Nolan talks about the rewatchability of films and thought to myself about how right he was. I had been rewatching films long before I ever realised I was interested in filmmaking. But after rewatching not just The Dark Knight (2008) but other films from Nolan's filmography, I can see the benefit loud and clear.
The Dark Knight (2008) is still the film I remember. It was everything. Suspenseful, funny, sad and tragic all in one. One could be easily forgiven if they forget that this film's source material hails from a comic book. It's more than a comic book film. It's a piece of cinema.
I have to say that this rewatching experience was totally worth it. Not just because I'm a huge Batman fan, but also because I'm now able to notice things I wasn't able to as a kid. The nuances in the cuts, the dialogue both good and iffy, the cinematography and the intentionality of the score.

Watching this film again was a treat, to say the least. I hope that other filmmakers follow suit and allow re-screenings of their films because in today's cinema hall, I was joined by a group of young boys who were around 12-13 years old and while this made me take note of my own age, watching them react to the film for the first time was the best part of my experience today. There's nothing like watching people enjoying cinema.
My Rating: 9.5/10
