DAY 25 - 26/11/2023

Im back on that Wong Kar-wai train because I also have to write about him for an assignment so this one film a day challenge really seems to be benefiting me in the funniest way.

Wong Kar-wai's film is a visual feast, and on a rewatch, the exquisite cinematography by Christopher Doyle becomes even more apparent. The use of colour, framing, and slow-motion shots creates a dreamlike atmosphere that enhances the emotional depth of the narrative. Every scene is meticulously composed, turning each frame into a work of art.

The hauntingly beautiful score by Shigeru Umebayashi is a crucial element of the film's emotional impact. On a rewatch, the music resonates more deeply, underscoring the characters' emotions and the nature of their connection. The soundtrack becomes a character in itself, weaving seamlessly into the fabric of the story.

The film's open-ended conclusion, marked by a whispered secret and a departure, gains additional layers of meaning with each rewatch. Viewers are encouraged to interpret the resolution in their own way, and subsequent viewings provide new perspectives on the characters' fates.

My Rating: 9/10.
