One Film A Day: Another Round

DAY 19 - 20/11/2023

This film was one I came across by accident but the film has come to hold fond memories for myself and my friends who have seen it too.

The film is Another Round (2020) directed by Thomas Vinterberg.

Also known as Druk (2020), Another Round is a Danish film that took home the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film or Film Not In The English Language or whatever mouthful title the award has now.

The point is, that this film has a well-rounded cast with beautifully nuanced and purposeful performances that have such an emotional impact on me as a person but also blend beautifully with the story.

This film explores the theory that we humans were born with an alcohol deficit in our blood which makes us less creative and likeable. The theory suggests that by drinking just enough alcohol, to fill that gap and become the best versions of themselves. Or so they say.

What I like about this film, is it doesn't drown in the sorrow and sadness of alcohol abuse, but instead uses it as a cautionary tale that informs but doesn't overshadow the positive message the film tries to send.
